Graduate nurses who have completed an accredited professional nurse-training program (BSN preferred) and experienced nurses who are looking to change specialty areas are candidates for nurse internships and nurse residencies. Nursing students who have completed two semesters of an accredited professional nursing school are candidates for nurse externships.

Internship positions are posted by specialty area several months before the program starts. Winter (February) program postings will be available in early to mid-September. Summer (July) program postings will be available in early to mid-February. Fall (October) program postings will be available in early to mid-July. Some positions may be available throughout the year on an as-needed basis.

Go to Jobs.MethodistHealthSystem.org and look for the “Location” drop-down box at the top of the page next to “Find A Career.” Select a campus location from the drop-down box. Then go to the “Category” drop-down box, scroll down to “nursing,” and click “SEARCH.” You’ll see a list of Registered Nurse and Intern positions as they are available. Click on the position that interests you and complete the application process. Note: Residencies are identified in the Registered Nurse Intern description.

Go to our Applicant Tracking System homepage, HealthCareSource.com/MethodistHealth/index.cfm#, and click “LOGIN.” Then click “register” to set up your applicant profile. Once complete you’ll see the dashboard, which allows you to navigate and manage features to help you find a position at Methodist Health System. To receive alerts when jobs become available, click “Set Up Job Agents,” then select jobs that interest you from the provided list and click “Submit.” When an opening occurs that matches your job agent, we will send you an email regarding the job opening along with a link to more information and how to apply. For RN internships, residencies, and externships, scroll down to the Nursing category until you see Nurse Extern or Registered Nurse Intern.    

Please include information related to all prequalifying questions to complete your application, then upload it with your resume and cover letter. Please do not attach your transcripts or recommendation letters. The completed application will then be reviewed for an internship or residency position.

Most internships and residencies are offered at all five campuses, including Methodist Dallas, Methodist Charlton, Methodist Mansfield, and Methodist Richardson Medical Centers and Methodist Richardson – Campus for Continuing Care. Please search our site to determine which internships or residencies are offered at which campuses.

Labor and delivery

Neonatal intensive care

Postpartum

Psychiatric and mental health

Operating room

Medical-surgical in the following subspecialties:

  • Oncology
  • Nephrology and transplant
  • Cardiology and telemetry
  • General surgery
  • Orthopedics, stroke, and trauma
  • Urology and gynecologic surgery
  • Progressive care or IMC.

Not all campuses offer internships or residencies in all specialties. Please look for “Find a Career” at the top of this page to search for specific internships or residencies by campus.

The length of the internship and residency varies by specialty. Some last 12 to 16 weeks, while others can last more than six months. Please refer to the specific internship posting to learn what each specialty involves.

 

No, but we do offer up to $250 in NCLEX review course support. We also have an aggressive incremental pay increase for nurses with up to three years of registered nurse experience.

Normally, we do not require nursing interns or residents to sign a contract.

No, however, we do offer tuition reimbursement for continuing education for full-time employment. Also, the federal government has a program called the Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program that may be helpful. 

Our campuses offer nurse extern positions for nursing students who are in their last two semesters of an accredited professional nursing school. Externs may work in their areas of interest, which may include women’s services, labor and delivery, telemetry, intensive care, surgery, emergency, medical-surgical, operating room, or other areas.  

Nursing students can search and apply for nurse extern positions that are posted online with all other positions as they become available. They can also apply for patient care technician (PCT) positions after completion of their first semester of clinical rotations.
