Graduate nurses who have completed an accredited professional nurse-training program (BSN preferred) and experienced nurses who are looking to change specialty areas are candidates for nurse residencies. Nursing students who have completed two semesters of an accredited professional nursing school are candidates for nurse externships.
Residency positions are posted by specialty area several months before the program starts. Winter (February) program postings will be available in early to mid-September. Summer (July) program postings will be available in early to mid-February. Fall (October) program postings will be available in early to mid-July. Some positions may be available throughout the year on an as-needed basis.
Go to Jobs.MethodistHealthSystem.org and look for the “Location” drop-down box at the top of the page next to “Find A Career.” Select a campus location from the drop-down box. Then go to the “Category” drop-down box, scroll down to “nursing,” and click “SEARCH.” You’ll see a list of Registered Nurse and Residency positions as they are available. Click on the position that interests you and complete the application process. Note: Residencies are identified in the Nurse Resident description.
Please include information related to all prequalifying questions to complete your application, then upload it with your resume and cover letter. Please do not attach your transcripts or recommendation letters. The completed application will then be reviewed for a residency position.

Most residencies are offered at all five campuses, including Methodist Dallas, Methodist Charlton, Methodist Mansfield, and Methodist Richardson Medical Centers and Methodist Richardson – Campus for Continuing Care. Labor and delivery
Neonatal intensive care
Postpartum
Psychiatric and mental health
Operating room
Medical-surgical in the following subspecialties:
- Oncology
- Nephrology and transplant
- Cardiology and telemetry
- General surgery
- Orthopedics, stroke, and trauma
- Urology and gynecologic surgery
- Progressive or intermediate care.

The length of the residency varies by specialty. Some last 12 to 16 weeks, while others can last more than six months. Please refer to the specific residency posting to learn what each specialty involves.
No, but we do offer up to $250 in NCLEX review course support. We also have an aggressive incremental pay increase for nurses with up to three years of registered nurse experience.

No, however, we do offer tuition reimbursement for continuing education for full-time employment. Also, the federal government has a program called the Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program that may be helpful.
Our campuses offer nurse extern positions for nursing students who are in their last two semesters of an accredited professional nursing school. Externs may work in their areas of interest, which may include women’s services, labor and delivery, telemetry, intensive care, surgery, emergency, medical-surgical, operating room, or other areas.
Nursing students can search and apply for nurse extern positions that are posted online with all other positions as they become available. They can also apply for patient care technician (PCT) positions after completion of their first semester of clinical rotations.
