Methodist Mansfield Medical Center is On-the-Grow!

Methodist Mansfield Medical Center

If you thought you knew Methodist Mansfield Medical Center, it’s time to take another look. I’m proud to say we’re growing by leaps and bounds thanks to the support of the community and the commitment of Methodist Health System.

In response to the strong demand for surgeries, Methodist Mansfield began construction on two additional operating rooms (ORs). We anticipate a spring 2014 opening.

Da Vinci® Surgical System

One of the ORs is being built specifically for the robotic da Vinci® Surgical System, used to perform intricate procedures with greater precision. Surgery with da Vinci offers patients many benefits over traditional surgery:

  • Minimal pain because there is reduced trauma to the surrounding tissue
  • Lower rate of major complications
  • Lower blood loss
  • Lower rate of wound infection
  • Smaller scars
  • Shorter hospital stay.

Most da Vinci Single-Site™ procedures require one tiny incision through the patient’s belly button, resulting in very little blood loss and hardly any scar from surgery.

Patients who have surgery using da Vinci usually go home from the hospital the same day and often back to their normal routine within a week.

The new OR has been designed using ideas from the specially trained da Vinci surgeons. Orientation of the equipment combined with the high-definition console will better accommodate the surgeons, and the room features a cleaner design with easier access to supplies used during the robotic procedures.

Advanced cardiac care

We heard our communities’ demands for more capacity to treat heart disease, and we will deliver with an OR equipped with the latest technology for specialized heart procedures, coronary artery bypass graph, and other open heart surgeries. This OR will double our heart surgery capabilities, providing greater access for the cardiovascular surgeons on our staff and greater convenience for their patients.

These new ORs are just the beginning. I’m also proud to announce that pending final approval we will soon launch a much broader expansion project that will include a second patient tower and hopefully a new physician office building. Nothing validates the health of a community more than a growing medical center, and I’m proud that Methodist Mansfield is the community’s hospital of choice.

The entire Methodist Mansfield team has done an amazing job of embracing the communities we serve, which in addition to Mansfield includes

South Arlington, South Grand Prairie, Kennedale, Venus, and Midlothian. Many of our employees live in these areas, and they have worked diligently to earn their communities’ trust. They take great pride in where they work, and we look for this sense of pride when prospective employees interview with us. We believe that if we take care of our employees, then our employees will take care of our patients, providing world-class care. When our employees are happy and proud, our patients are happy. It’s that simple.

Many of our employees have been honored with a variety of awards, and we couldn’t be prouder of them. I feel awards validate our culture and our continuing focus on employee education. We continually work with our emerging leaders to prepare them to accept additional responsibility.

If you ask our employees, they will tell you that Methodist Mansfield has high standards. For high-performing people, I think this is the best place to work. In fact, Methodist Health System has been recognized as a Best Place to Work for 10 consecutive years by the Dallas Business Journal. We’re growing. We’re excelling. And we’re serving with pride and distinction. I think the future is extremely bright for Methodist Mansfield.
