Methodist Health System Board of Directors Approves $118 Million for expansion
Methodist Health System today announced approval by its board of directors of a $118 million facility expansion plan to add a second patient tower with an eventual capacity of 118 beds. The project also includes the expansion of support services to the acute care Methodist Mansfield Medical Center. Scheduled to open in fall 2015, the new 110,000 square-foot tower will be located at the northwest corner of the existing building. The expansion will feature 34,000 square feet of additional operating rooms, cardiology and gastroenterology services and 64,000 square-feet of additional support services including lab, materials management, biomed, and sterile processing to name a few.
Methodist Mansfield, which began as a community hospital in 2006, has nearly doubled its capacity with multiple expansions in seven years and continues to grow to meet the needs of area residents.
“This hospital has served Mansfield and the surrounding area with compassionate quality health care,” said Levi Davis, chairman of the Methodist Health System board of directors. “We look forward to the addition of this new tower and the role it will play in the stewardship of this community’s health for many years to come.”
“We couldn’t be more honored to witness the growth of Methodist Mansfield, as well as the economic opportunity this expansion will bring,” said Mansfield Mayor David Cook. “Access to first-rate health care facilities is a primary concern for any community. This expansion strengthens that access for our residents, while, at the same time, turns our community into a regional destination for health care services.”
The new tower will initially open with 54 beds, with shell space for 64 more. The hospital currently features a women’s pavilion, a level III neonatal intensive care unit, labor and delivery suites and recovery services. The hospital also offers advanced cardiac care, including minimal invasive catheterization procedures and electrophysiology as well as da Vinci®robotic surgical services. The radiology department features the latest in imaging technology to better diagnose and treat medical conditions including mammo spa days.
“Many people came together to make this vision a reality,” said president of Methodist Mansfield Medical Center John Phillips, FACHE. “We are grateful to the City of Mansfield for their continued support as well as the Methodist Mansfield advisory board for their guidance and leadership during this process.”
Upon completion of the new tower in 2015, Methodist Mansfield will potentially add up to 200 new hospital-based jobs within the next five years.
“This expansion will equip us with the ability to meet the needs of our growing community population, allowing us to be the trusted provider for every generation.” said Phillips.
