Methodist Mansfield Medical Center Wins Two Awards
Mansfield — Interventional cardiologist Alan Taylor, MD, and extern Grant Stephens were among honorees named in the prestigious 2016 Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council Foundation Awards this year. Dr. Taylor was honored as Physician of the Year and Mr. Stephens was the recipient of the Rex McRae Scholarship named in memory of the former DFWHC Board Chair and chief executive officer of Arlington Memorial Hospital.
The recipients were selected from representatives of 57 area hospitals for the awards honoring individuals who have made a significant impact on patients, peers, and the community at large.
“These award winners represent the dedication and hard work shown by all of our employees and physicians who are role models for Methodist Mansfield and the community,” Methodist Mansfield President John Phillips, FACHE, says. “We are honored the DFW Hospital Council has recognized their compassion and dedication to serve and care for others.”
Grant Stephens was chosen for his dedication and compassionate care in both his role as student and an extern at Methodist Mansfield. He balances his time between working two jobs in the hospital, raising his four-year-old son as a single father, while pursuing his dream of becoming a nurse by attending El Centro College. He discovered a passion for nursing when he enrolled in health science courses at Ben Barber Career Tech Academy and shadowed the nurses at Methodist Mansfield each week. Serving others renews his spirit and gives him inspiration to set a positive example for other single parents trying to find a way.
Alan Taylor, MD, interventional cardiologist on the medical staff at Methodist Mansfield, was honored for his leadership, clinical expertise, dedication, and passion for patient care. For the past eight years, he has been actively involved in promoting heart health by conducting echocardiograms for high school athletes and implemented time-saving techniques (standardized equipment, protocol, procedures, etc.) for cardiac patients and personnel when time to treatment is the most critical factor in determining the difference between life and death. He is known throughout North Texas for his expertise in cardiac care, serving as an adjunct professor to numerous universities and colleges, a member of physician advisory groups, and guest lecturer at cardiac conferences and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists programs to name a few.
“These awards pay tribute to the healthcare heroes of North Texas including our nurses, technicians, educators and so many other dedicated professionals working in our hospitals,” said Kristin Jenkins, president of the DFW Hospital Council Foundation. “The awards are an opportunity to honor the positive spirit and tireless efforts of those employees who assist our hospitals to function smoothly.”
For 20 years, the DFW Hospital Council Foundation event has highlighted the importance of the healthcare workforce and paid tribute to individuals who contribute to the success of hospitals, patients, the community and the families of those they serve.
Board members of the Dallas-Fort Worth Healthcare Human Resources Association Board judge the nominations with the names of individuals and hospitals removed. Board members based their selection on the facts presented.
