Methodist Health System’s mission is to improve and save lives through compassionate, quality healthcare. We are proud to accomplish this every day by working and creating value through the compassionate and competent talent that we hire.

As an organization, we are deeply committed to providing opportunities and resources for our staff and continuing to grow and shine even brighter. This commitment to personal and professional development is one that starts at the top and runs throughout the organization.

Education inspires us to do more.

Our belief is that development should happen at every stage of one’s career — both vertically and horizontally — and we have an abundance of offerings to meet needs at each level. From tuition reimbursement, leadership training, and professional development to coaching, mentoring, and ad-hoc developmental opportunities, we have something for everyone. By taking advantage of these opportunities, our team members may enhance their skill sets and prepare for higher level or more expanded positions within Methodist.

For those at the beginning of their careers or looking for a career change, we have a unique partnership with a local junior college to offer the El Centro College Associate Degree Nursing Program at Methodist Health System. This two-year nursing program on the campus of Methodist Dallas Medical Center helps us develop our own nurses — something that is very important to us. Methodist employees, their family members, and volunteers are eligible to apply. Best of all, Methodist pays for the program.

A world of opportunities at Methodist.

David Molengraaf, director of emergency services, Methodist Charlton Medical Center, says, “I attended the El Centro College Associate Degree Nursing Program at Methodist. I became an extern and then an intern after graduating from nursing school and earning my RN. From the beginning, I gravitated toward critical care. During my externship at Methodist Dallas, I transferred from coronary critical care to surgical intensive critical care, learning as much as I could. It was a perfect fit. In fact, now I’m working on my MSN. I believe anything is possible at Methodist. They’ve given me and my family everything we need in our careers. Both of my daughters are in nursing, too. One has her BSN and works at Methodist Dallas.”

What other programs do we have? For our staff-level employees who are interested in leadership, we have an Emerging Leaders Program that focuses on developing the skills needed to be an effective leader. Front-line managers can participate in ELEVATE, a program that addresses the jump from managing day-to-day operations to having a strategic vision. Our partnership with the Advisory Board provides quarterly Nurse Leadership Academy workshops for our nurse managers.

Evolving with the needs of our workforce, we also have an online training catalog and learning platform that allow employees to search over 800 online and instructor-led courses to find what meets their needs. Our employees appreciate the ability to complete some of these courses in less than 10 minutes from the comfort of their homes.

At Methodist, we believe that some of the best training happens on the job, and we are happy to offer job-shadowing opportunities and formal and informal mentoring programs. Our formal development programs focus on on-the-job application, too.

Meet a few more success stories.

Not only do we have easily accessible resources for career development, we have success stories. Many of our leaders exemplify internal advancement. For example, Martin Koonsman, MD, FACS, CPE, chief medical officer, Methodist Health System, and Les Cler, MD,FACP, CPE, chief medical officer, Methodist Dallas, both started their residencies at Methodist. Fran Laukaitis, MHA, BSN, RN, FACHE, president, Methodist Charlton, began her career as a bedside nurse and is the first registered nurse to serve as president of a Methodist facility.

Our commitment to development and career advancement is more than just words. We invite you to consider joining Methodist Health System and be inspired to advance throughout your career. See what’s possible for you at
